Find the difference and subtraction

There are different ways of  subtraction 
Example 402 -394
This method works is taking away 300
402 - 300 =102
Then taking away 90
102-90=12
Finally take away 4
12-4 = 8


Or just subtract the subtrahend from minuend


402-394 = 8
