Unit 13 / Lesson 1 : In and out of school
Good afternoon grade 7
Today we will study unit 13 / Lesson 1 : In and out of school
Let's start with the new vocabulary
1- interrupting : To say or do something that makes somebody stop what they are saying or doing
EX: I often ask a classmate instead of interrupting the teacher.
2- distract :Take someone's attention away from what they are doing.
EX: talking in class distracts you from getting on with your work.
3- Tell (someone) off :The act of speaking angrily to somebody because he has done something bad.
EX: our teacher sometimes tells us off for talking in class.
4- acids : A chemical, usually a liquid that contains hydrogen.
EX: your teacher must be with you while using dangerous acids.
5- Concentrate on : To give all your attention to something and not think about anything else.
EX: you have to concentrate when doing the experiments in the lap.
Now let's move to the second part which is : THE USE OF PREPOSITIONS FOLLOWED BY "ING"
In order to understand it well we need to know the meaning of the word preposition:
PREPOSITIONS: Words used before a noun or pronoun to show place, position, time or method.
Here are some examples of these words " for - about - at - in - without - from - on - of - instead of - by " . If these prepositions followed by a verb, we have to add " ing " to this verb.
EX 1: Don't be scared OF ASKING the teacher to explain for you.
look at the verb ask, we added " ing " to it, because it comes after the preposition (of)
EX 2 : What do you think about having a picnic on Sunday
Look at the verb have after the preposition about, we added " ing " to it
