Science/Grade6- Today’s Topic- Choosing te right materials for electrical appliances- learner’s book- pages 82 and 83.
Main points:-
1)Electrical appliances are made up of materials that conduct electricity and insulating materials that do not conduct electricity.
2)A plug connects a device to the mains electricity supply. The cable between the device and the three-pin plug contains three copper wires that are coated with plastic. Copper wires are good conductors . Plastic is a good insulator.
3)Despite the advantages of using parallel circuits in the electrical wiring in buildings, there is a disadvantage. Parallel circuits can become overloaded with too many branches and become a safety hazard. The overloading can cause too much heat which could lead to a fire starting. The fire would spread throughout the house and cause a lot of damage.
4)Purpose of electric switch is to complete or break the circuit. Electrical gadgets that have switches built into them are Fan, refrigerator, television, microwave oven, electric cookers.
