The second conditional " if "
Good morning grade 7
Today we will discuss the use of the second conditional
We use the second conditional to describe imaginary situations ( not real situations )
FORM : If + Subject + PAST SIMPLE + Object, Subject + Would + infinitive
FOR EXAMPLE
1- If I had enough money, I would buy a new house
2- If they played well, they would win the match
3- If he studied hard, he would pass the exam
4- I he listened well, he would understand the meaning
5- If I were a doctor, I would help poor people
YOU CAN CHANGE THE ORDER OF THE CLAUSES AS THE FOLLOWING
1- I would buy a new house if I had enough money
2- They would win the match If they played well
3- He would pass the exam If he studied hard
4- He would understand the meaning If he listened well
5- I would help poor people If I were a doctor
HOW TO FORM A NEGATIVE SENTENCE
We just change ( WOULD ) to ( WOULDN'T) as the following
1- If I had enough money, I wouldn't live in a small house
2- If they played well, They wouldn't lose the points
3- If I were a doctor, I wouldn't take money of poor people
HOW TO FORM A QUESTION USING THE SECOND CONDITIONAL
1- Would you live in a big house if you had enough money
= Yes, I would
= No, I wouldn't
2- would you help poor people if you were a doctor
= Yes, I would
= No, I wouldn't
WE ALSO USE THE SECOND CONDITIONAL TO GIVE ADVISES
1- If I were you I'd walk to school
2- If I were you I'd stop smoking
3- If I were you I'd would go to Muscat by bus not Taxi
