The important points are
1.Energy required for a substance to make the change in state.this energy does not increase the substance' s temperature and for this reason , it's known as latent heat..

2.specific latent heat of vapourisation - the energy per kilogram required to cause a substance to change state from liquid to gas at its melting point.
3.specific latent heat of fusion - the energy per kilogram required to cause a substance to change state from solid to liquid at its melting point
4.general formula
Energy required = mass x specific latent heat
Energy = mL
Where m = mass
L = specific latent heat
Look at the worked example 10.2
5.Measuring latent heat
Specific latent heat = energy supplied / mass
