Today's revision topic in chemistry : characteristic reactions of acids
Pg.no : 131 & 132
The important points are
1. Salt - a compound made from an acid when a metal takes place of the hydrogen in the acid
2.reaction of acid with metals :
Metal + acid will gives salt + hydrogen
The salt made depends on the acid
* Hydrochloric acid always give a chloride
* Nitric acid always gives a nitrate
* Sulfuric acid always gives a sulfate
* Ethonoic acid given an ethanoate
3. Reactions of acids with bases and alkalis
Acid + base gives Salt + water
4. Reactions of acids with carbonates
Acid + metal carbonate gives salt + water + carbondioxide.
Look at table 5.8 in pg no 133 - examples of making salts.
