Our topic for today is about using brackets
You have used partitioning and factorising in this unit to help solve multiplication problems
You use brackets in calculations to organise the parts of the calculation and to show what part needs to be done first. Look at the way brackets are used here to organise each part of the calculation.220 x2= (200x2)+(20x2) Brackets have the highest priority.Do the operation inside them before you do the multiplication or division. Always  do addition or subtraction last, unless they are inside a bracket.
You can also use brackets for the calculation 6 x 14.What is the same and what is different each time? Which is easier? 6x14=6x(7x2)  or  6 x14=(6x7)x2

90 =80+10
Or
 (2) *  ( 5x 9 )
45x2=90
Or
(5x2 ) * (9)
10x9=90
